Climb The Canyon |
|
A grueling Road Bike ride, Climb the Canyon, will challenge your mental and physical limits. The ride starts at the rim of Palo Duro Canyon State Park and descends sharply down into the canyon, where the ride continues along the Canyon road system, then ascends from the canyon floor to a 800 foot brutal climb to the finish line at the top of the canyon rim.
The course of the ride is symbolic of a child’s struggle with Cancer: Picure the rim of the canyon as good health. The drop to the canyon floor, narrow, steep, terrifying, spiraling, and seemingly out of control is the same with a child with cancer…terrifying, no cure in sight, out of control, the loss of health and the downward spiral. The canyon floor is where the child is struggling with all the treatments and coping with the physical and emotional losses. The climb out of the canyon symbolizes the child’s struggle to regain their health and along with a treatment begin the long and exhausting struggle to the rim of the canyon, which is hopefully a cure. Some children will make it back to good health. Some children will not
be so lucky; they will not make it. A second less grueling course will be chosen for those that do not feel that their level of biking is suited for the first course. All proceeds from this ride will go to help Children with Cancer. “Approximately 46 children a day are told that they have cancer…That’s 2 classrooms of children each day that learn they have cancer. The cure rate for childhood cancer has risen to 80% in recent years…I want to cure the other 20%.” Chidren's Cancer prevention advocate.
“Having a 2 year old makes me look at life under a new light, and
if I have the opportunity to help other children then that is the least
I could do for being blessed with a healthy child of my own.” Says
John Dubina, co-founder of Team Kure www.TeamKure.org
and an avid cyclist.
